Student Guide

Veriprose is a free, browser-based essay editor that automatically saves snapshots of your writing as you work. It records how the essay was written — every edit with its timing, paste events, and typing patterns — so your teacher can replay the writing session to support academic integrity. Only what happens inside this editor is recorded, never anything in other windows or apps; see the privacy statement for exactly what's in the file. When you're finished, you'll upload both a .essay file and a PDF.

Getting Started

1
Name your submission

Type your first and last name followed by the assignment title in the field at the top of the page (e.g., Alexis Markes — Essay 1). This becomes the filename when you save.

2
Write your essay

Write! Use the toolbar to apply headings, bold/italic/underline. A revision is auto-saved every 60 seconds.

3
Save both files before submitting

You need two files for submission:

  • Click 💾 Save (or Ctrl+S) to download your .essay file — this preserves your full writing data and lets you resume editing later.
  • Click 📄 Export PDF to generate a PDF with your essay.

Submitting to your teacher

You will submit two files: the .essay file and the PDF.

  1. Click 💾 Save in the toolbar to download your .essay file.
  2. Click 📄 Export PDF. A new window will open with your formatted essay and integrity appendix.
  3. In the Print screen, select "Save as PDF" (or "Print to PDF"), then click Save.
  4. Log in to Google Classroom and navigate to the course.
  5. Go to the Assignments section and open the assignment.
  6. Click and upload both the .essay file and the PDF.
  7. Confirm both files appear in the submission, then click Submit.
⚠️ Important: You must submit both the .essay file and the PDF. The .essay file carries your full revision and paste history in a format your instructor can verify; the PDF contains your readable essay plus an integrity appendix. Missing either file may delay grading or result in a zero for the assignment.

About the Side Panel

Stats — Shows total word count, characters, sentences, paragraphs, reading time, and session work time. Also shows your Keyboard Entropy Score (natural typing rhythm) and Paste Ratio (pasted vs. typed content).
History — Lists every auto-saved revision with timestamp and word count. Click any revision to view it read-only. The slider and arrow buttons let you step through your history. A visual diff highlights additions and deletions.
Pastes — Logs every paste event with timestamp, character count, and a preview of the pasted text.

Tips for Success

  • Write directly in Veriprose rather than pasting from another editor. This builds a strong revision history and keeps your paste ratio low.
  • Save often with Ctrl+S, especially before closing your browser.
  • To continue across sessions, use the Open button to reload your previous .essay file.
  • You can resize the side panel by dragging the divider between the editor and the panel.

Troubleshooting

My file didn't download when I clicked Save.

Try pressing Ctrl+S instead. If that doesn't work, check that your browser isn't blocking downloads from the page. You may need to allow pop-ups or downloads.

I accidentally closed my browser without saving.

Veriprose will warn you before closing if you have unsaved changes. However, if you dismissed the warning, your work may be lost. Veriprose runs entirely in your browser and does not store anything on a server. Save early; save often!

I want to continue an essay I started earlier.

Click 📂 Open and select your previously saved .essay file. All your content, revisions, and paste history will be restored.

What's the difference between Save and Export PDF?

💾 Save downloads a .essay file that preserves your full writing data (revisions, pastes, typing patterns) and lets you resume editing later. 📄 Export PDF creates a readable PDF with your essay plus an integrity appendix. You need to submit both files — the PDF is what your instructor reads, and the .essay file is what they verify.

Everything cleared.
